Most of the time we are faced with challenges that come in the way of fulfilling our desires, day to day hurdles, intense apprehensions about our future or our own struggle to overcome past emotional trauma. More often than not, in all such situations, individuals become over sensitive to a point where they lose the real essence of life. People become oblivious of the fact that it is always our internal frame of mind that leads to our overall well being and resilience and that is the key to our mental health.
It’s high time that we have paid attention to our internal faculties for more enriching life experiences. We humans are always more interested in highly complex aspects of life but at the same time we neglect most simple life enhancing aspects. It is universal understanding that everything we experience starts from within whether it’s an emotion or a tiny thought. Are we using our emotions and thoughts in our favor or using it against ourselves. We come across many people who say they are going crazy or getting frustrated on silly things. Even today self care is not a priority for many of us which are complicating things further. Fortunately we have so many effective techniques to overcome our emotional distress and impact of traumatic experiences.

Mindfulness meditation is one of the most effective techniques and can be of great help in such situations. Mindfulness mediation has proven to be very useful in physical and mental conditions which include depression, chronic pain and anxiety. Mindfulness was described by Kabat-Zinn in 1994 as paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally. Mindfulness is a process of becoming aware of one’s mind and body, and living in the here and now by accepting the present to fully appreciate each moment. It is a practical way to be more in touch with the fullness of one’s being, through self-observation, self –inquiry and mindful action.
Mindfulness mediation helps to increase the attention span, gives better clarity of thoughts, enhances our creativity; it helps in better decision making , emotional reactivity and enhances the overall quality of life by reducing depression and anxiety. An individual shows better behavioral regulation with a better sense of compassion and altruistic behavior. Just reading about it won’t help, let’s take some time out from our busy schedule and practice mindfulness meditation to get evident results to make our lives more beautiful and grateful.
“The basic root of happiness lies in our minds; outer circumstances are nothing more than adverse or favorable.” ~Matthieu Ricard
